Crisis-free Christmas

As a child, Christmas was all about bright colored lights, and sweet smells and wonderful things coming from the kitchen, and of course, PRESENTS!

As adults, too often we get caught up into the frenzy and lose track of the joy. We can get a handle on stress. Plan ahead, Think, Focus, and have a few things up your sleeve to “save your sanity”.

Remember: “Angry Words You Don't say will float away: “Once Spoken, the Hurt can Never be Broken”. You can take a break, disappear, go to the bathroom, take a walk, breathe.

You are making memories, let them be pleasant ones.

Here are a couple of last minute ideas for some sweet treats. Simple and quick to make: pleasing and sweet, just the way you want to be remembered.

Orange Creamsicle Fudge

Ingredients

  • 1 (12oz) bag white chocolate chips
  • 1 (16oz) tub store bought vanilla frosting
  • ½ tsp orange extract
  • orange food coloring

Instructions

  1. Prepare a 9 x 9 inch baking dish by lining the inside of the dish with foil or parchment. Set aside.

  1. Place white chocolate chips in a large microwave safe bowl and heat in the microwave. You will be watching and stirring after each 30 second burst. It might take 2, it might take 3, just focus on how they are melting. When they are smooth and almost completely liquid, add in the entire tub of frosting and this time just heat for 15 seconds. Stir well to combine.

  1. Remove about ½ of the mixture to a different bowl. Add orange extract and a couple drops of food coloring. Stir well to combine. Add colored mixture back in with the white mixture and stir just a little bit. You want to see the swirl of the orange and cream, don't mix all the way. Pour into prepared pan and let cool then stick in the refrigerator to firm up.

  1. Remove from refrigerator and cut into 16 bite sized pieces to serve.

========================================

Or try serving with these:

Fast and Fancy Fudge

Ingredients

  • 1 12oz. package semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk (like Eagle Brand)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¾ cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
  • In a medium microwave-safe bowl combine chocolate pieces, sweetened condensed milk, and water.
  • Microwave, uncovered, on High for 2 to 3 bursts, each at 30 seconds, stirring between each burst, or until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Stir in nuts, and vanilla.

  • Spread the fudge across the prepared pan into roughly a 9 x 12 rectangle  Allow to cool, then chill to firm.

Then cut into 1 inch squares.

    ===============================

Now if you have some more time here is another quick and easy treat:

Lagdelte ferie glæde

Ingredients:
-2 tubes of crescent rolls dough
-2 (8oz) packages cream cheese (softened)
-1 cup sugar
-1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¼ cup butter (melted)
-Cinnamon & sugar (I used about ¼ cup sugar and 1 tbs cinnamon)

Instructions:
Unroll and spread 1 tube of dough in bottom of un-greased pan. Combine softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla, (if you like, add some fruit spread or favorite preserves)

Spread mixture over the dough. Unroll and spread remaining tube of dough over the mixture.

Spread melted butter over the top and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes.

Like they say: a Party in Your Mouth!

These simple and quick treats can make lasting memories of a great time. Even if You should find your self alone this holiday, make one of these and take them to a neighbor who might be alone. The sharing with someone else will act as a sharing with Your loved one, no matter how far away they are.

Merry Christmas to You and Yours

ferie morgenmad

Beer Candied Bacon
The Danes celebrate J-Day on the first Friday of every November.
The tradition was, of course, initiated by Carlsberg Danmark to market their Tuborg Julebryg. Today, has become part of national folklore. The event is so popular, the expression “J-day” is now in the Danish dictionary.
“Delivering the first snow to the people”
Employees dress up in Blue and White Santa suits and spend the evening driving beer trucks and horse carriages around the country’s biggest cities to deliver the beer. Each truck visits approximately ten places giving away free beer and performing a Tuborg Julebryg song and dance.

This is very much a Christmas Tradition in Denmark. If you question the Blue and White suits, remember one fact. On this side of the Atlantic, Santa wears Red and White only because that was Coca-Cola's colors when they first ran their Christmas advertising. Slave guesses that blue and white merchandise is very fashionable there.
Anyway here is a dressed up holiday treat in honor of this Christmas tradition from Denmark.

The uses of beer-candied bacon are endless: crumble and toss on brownies, stick a slice in ice cream, add to a caramel milkshake or just eat it plain. Bacon doesn’t need anything else to make it special.
Beer-Candied Bacon
Start to finish: 48 minutes

Makes 1 lbs. thick-cut bacon per glaze recipe

Sweet Glaze:
• ¼ cup stout For a festive touch try: Tulborg Christmas Ale!
Slave could not find any here so Sam Adams: “White Christmas” was used
• ½ cup dark brown sugar
Cinnamon to taste

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line the bottom of a broiler pan with foil for easy cleanup. Spray a baking rack for the bacon.

Place bacon on broiler pan in a single layer and bake 12 minutes. Flip bacon and bake 12 minutes more.

• Brush bacon with glaze and bake 6 minutes.
Flip bacon, brush with glaze and bake 6 minutes more.
Flip bacon, brush with glaze and bake 6 minutes more
Flip bacon, brush with glaze and bake 6 minutes more
for a total of 48 minutes in the oven.

• Remove bacon from oven. At this point it will be pliable and can be twisted or rolled. As it cools to room temperature it will harden. Twisted and stuck into a glass makes a festive finger food for any event.
Slave suggests you copy and print those times and mark them through as you do them. It helps to keep track.

If your tastes run to a more spicy treat add:
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne

Now If you can keep from eating the whole pound at one setting, try this recipe:

Morgenmad Pizza

Ingredients:

3 slices of Beer Candied Bacon, cut into small pieces
1 package (tube) of ready to bake pizza dough
¼ cup grated Fontina cheese
¼ cup grated Havarti cheese
¼ tsp Garlic powder
Red pepper flakes
3 – 4 large eggs
Olive oil to drizzle
Salt and pepper to taste

Place pizza stone in the oven and pre-heat to temperature called for on the package of pizza dough. (400)
Sprinkle a cutting board lightly with cornmeal or flour. Open the tube of dough and roll it out over the cornmeal. It might take a rolling pin to give you the shape you wish. Now sprinkle a bit more corn meal on the pizza peel (or paddle) and transfer the dough to that.

The dough might need pre-cooking. Just follow the guidelines for that dough. In this case it bakes for 5 minutes before anything is added.
Prick the dough with a fork and slide it onto the heated stone.

While that is cooking, do your eggs. The trick is to cook the whites and still leave some of the yolk runny, so you can dip pieces into it.
Some recipes call for you to crack them onto the pizza while it is in the oven. This is unnecessary problems just waiting to happen.
Spray the skillet, heat to medium low and fry the eggs, sunny side up. In fact they do not have to be all the way done yet. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the residual finish it.

After the 5 minutes mark, pull the crust out using the peel, back to the cutting board and lightly drizzle olive oil onto the dough and spread it around with a spoon.
Top with cheeses and bacon pieces. Sprinkle with garlic powder and red pepper flakes.
Slide the pizza back into the oven onto the already hot stone.

The dough said it needed 10 more minutes so bake for 7 minutes.
Then carefully slide out the pizza again. Using the spatula, trim the eggs until they look like you want and slide them onto the pizza.

Return it carefully to the oven to finish cooking the last 3 minutes. The white parts of the egg should be set, the cheese just starting to get a touch of brown.
Remove: season with salt and pepper, slice and serve. Oh what a wonderful aroma!

What a yummy “ferie morgenmad” to serve for Your Master!

Saint Louis Stroganoff

As you become more comfortable in the kitchen, you will be better able to “Think on your feet”. Slave uses this as an example: This week there was a sale on a “Saint Louis” style cut known as a pork steak. It was decided to try them in the crock pot the way that thick pork chops had been done so successfully. Yes, they came out very tasty but cooked so tender they fell off of the bone!

This is how the left-overs were turned into a unique and hearty dinner. They became “Saint Louis Stroganoff”. This is the first recipe that slave has seen using pork in place of the traditional beef. Not only a wonderful holiday meal but a nice example of “Thinking on your feet”.

Ingredients:
1lbs (or more) of left over cooked pork steak.
1 medium yellow onion
8oz mushrooms sliced
1 13.5 oz can condensed cream of chicken    soup
3 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
8 oz low fat sour cream
2 Tbs olive oil

½ package of pasta.*
Please note that Stroganoff is traditionally served on egg noodles. However, slave has found it also works just as well served over puffed rice! (unsweetened) So, since the pantry held ½ box of mostaccioli pasta, that was used. Use up what you have!

Directions:
Do your cutting. Wash and slice the mushrooms. Do a rough chop on the onion. Cut up the left-over cooked steaks into bite sized pieces.

Slave served this with fresh roasted green beans so they were washed, snapped, tossed with 1 tbs olive oil and placed in a 425 degree oven for a total of 20 minutes.

Water was brought to a boil and the pasta cooked for 10 minutes.
While that cooked, 2 tbs oil was brought to a medium heat in a large frying pan and the onions stirred in. This was left to cook until the onions started to soften.

Next add the sliced mushrooms and let that cook covered, for about 4 minutes. This will draw out the moisture. Stir in the undiluted condensed soup and the Worcestershire sauce until that starts to bubble.

Add the pork pieces, lower the heat to a simmer and cover. Let that go for another 4 – 5 minutes. This is just to warm up the meat and blend in the flavors.

Dish out the green beans and a large bowl with cooked pasta. Then pour the meat mixture into a 9 x 13 casserole. After it is on the table divide the sour cream into three portions and spoon that on top to melt into the Stroganoff.

A complete, wonderful tasting, and unique meal. This also might be nice with some crusty bread, but it is not necessary since the pasta already provides the starch.

Hope you enjoy making this easy and smart meal. Feel free to add your own special touch, like maybe some Dijon Mustard?

Slave passes along the best Holiday Greeting from Master Indy and this humble servant.

Mental Health Care and the Consensual Slave

Yes, there are going be be times when any of us need the support and care that mental health care professionals provide. Relationships will disappoint us, people will hurt us – and not in a good way! We might find processing trauma and grief overwhelming. Is is natural and healthy to turn to these professionals. People trained to guide us through these complexities.

However, for many in the kink life, and particularly for the consensual slave, what should be a normal course of action is an unknown minefield. Proceed with caution. The bottom line to remember: You are worthwhile! You deserve to be happy! What makes you happy is nobody else's business.

The vast majority of professionals in the health care field have now had, at least an introduction to WHAT “kink” is. You must keep in mind that many honestly believe that this is a sickness and they can and must cure you. Look how long it took for them to view “Reparative Therapy” as dangerous. Still that is not universal in the least.

The way that the official guidelines are written or the way things are described in the “DSM V” should not concern you but they do. You seek help. It is illogical for you to fear for the very foundation of your well being or expect that the life view you have finally found is going to be subconsciously attacked. That the very things that give you the most joy will be ripped to shreds by professionals in manipulation. All under the guise of: “it's for your own good”.

Run the moment you suspect any red flags. This is just as important as any red flags to safety in the dungeon. These are just as life threatening. The ideas planted in your mind will ease forward when you least suspect them. I know this sounds alarmist. Sit back for a second and think about it. A person comes into one of these sessions, already with a wounded psyche. They are seeking help. Here is a professional, trained in helping, using words couched in caring and concern, here is support, here is agreement with “your side”, and enough Kleenex to handle Noah's Flood.

These are not mean and heartless people. They could not have gone through all of the years of training and study if they did not intend well. The fault, must lie in what they were studying. When their training dealt with ideas or customs or even “enjoyments” that were foreign to them, things “felt” bad. Of course they must help you to see the error of that way of thinking. To heal you, they must convince you that the very things you “thought” you enjoyed, were really harmful.

They are not mean people. That fact will make it difficult for you to separate the practitioner from the practice. It is very hard to say: “Thank You, you are very kind and helpful. “However, I can not allow you to sabotage the very things that give me euphoria, when the rest of my life is in trauma.”

Think how long it took to find this life: This role that you were born to play. Think how strange the thought was before the whole world “clicked” with you. All before finding yourself. Before finding who you were and what you were intended to do in this life. You have found that “you”. That you is good. That you is just what you should be. That you is lovable. That you deserves protection and nurturing. That you is worthwhile.

The consensual slave has realized the wonderful feeling associated with nurturing, care-giving, altruism. The joy of making someone happy. Well these things are vilified by the most popular school of therapy today: “Codependency”. While some have found help with addictions in this school of thought, we must wonder. How many have been hurt and what kind of price has this inflicted on our community as a whole?
The logical conclusion of the Codependent therapy is a withdrawal from relationships and a complete self sufficiency that rejects responsibility for our fellow beings.
Yes, of course there are forms of unhealthy giving and ways to “lose a sense of self” in another. However in this school of thought no importance is placed in a mutuality of effort. Codependent Therapy does not recognize the true aspect of “power-exchange” where both Master and slave gives and takes. No emphasis is ever placed on healthy give and take. In fact, “giving” or “caring for” is discouraged as part of the sickness.

The worst aspect of this therapy is that rarely intelligent discussions of the pros and cons of this teaching can take place. All too often, pseudo science and knee-jerk religious concepts fly laced with gender binary sexism thrown in. If you find fault with their teachings, you are using a “defense mechanism”, or you are “projecting”, or in denial, or any number of other non-relevant terms.

May I suggest a more positive approach to finding the help you need. Check with “Kink Aware Professionals”. They might not be handy to where you are but can give you pointers and help. Keep positive.
Recently slave was forced to outline four “goals” for mental health help. It is hoped they can help you also.

Well Being
1.) I wish to seek to enhance the will to life and the will to life-giving relationships, both for myself and any combination of others.
I would like to identify what in my actions or the actions of my relationships already represents a quest for fuller life.
To reflect on which are my most positive actions, and on those actions that are destructive.
To find the impulses toward life within those very acts.
Further, I wish to name those experiences that best nourish lives and relationships.
Next I wish to seek ways to build such experiences more fully into my daily routine. The nourishing experiences can be anything from political activity, gardening, spending time with friends, participating in active sports, exploring the natural world, exercising, or just listening to music.
Although my primary focus should be on my life and relationships, I would also focus more directly on life in general. I wish to be concerned with the well being of my community and participate in actions that nourish communal life and relationships. Participate in communal rituals, common meals, and communal play.
Basically I wish to identify and engage in actions that support not only my own well being but also the well being of my community.

Spirit to Live
2.) I wish to enhance my life and relationships with a spirit to Live. Explore the practice of prayer, contemplation, and meditation. To more fully live in this world, I would like to find the motivation and the pathways such practices often provide. This may allow me to discover the joy that is, and should be, the very act of living! Not in some great achievement but rather in simply the “ins and outs” of daily life.

Get More Involved in Self Giving
3.) I wish to focus on forms of giving that are most valuable to myself and others. Forms of giving that are the least tainted by past experience with low self worth. The possibilities of self-giving can be limitless: giving through helping others (individually and collectively); participating in the political process; giving through developing my distinctive strengths and the quality of my own life, both for myself and for others.

Enjoy life and enjoy relationships
4.) I wish to seek ways to enhance my life and relationships so that they bring more enjoyment to all involved. This might include analyzing what is already present to be enjoyed, what is absent, and what might be transformed or initiated as a pathway to enjoyment. The aim would be to enhance the quality of my life and the quality of my relationships. I know that relationships are often filled with brokenness and pain, but they don't HAVE to be. The healing of the way I view relationships can contribute to my growth and may very well be the basis of healing the world in general. By “world”, I mean all that I can relate to, see, and experience.

If I change the way I think and perceive, I will change my world

The core of these four points is a positive outlook. These are positive steps you can take. They are not judgmental – we have had too much of that already.
Yes I know they conflict with much of the Codependency band wagon. But the bottom line is, will they help you? You are more important than any school of thought, any teaching, any writing. Remember you must care for yourself before you are able to care for anyone else.

Pardon slave if this sounds like a rant. It is intended only to help and to support. It is part of what I must do as a slave.
